What is the structure of our physical reality? Physicists have long imagined space and the time interweaving in “space-time,” the metaphorical fabric underlying the cosmos. But there may be something even more fundamental. Instead of the three spatial dimensions of spacetime and some time, the physics of our world could be encoded in a set of strange geometric shapes, the study of which could chart a new spacetimeless path to a theory of everything.
