Ahn, who has never won on the LPGA Tour before, leads the leaderboard at eight under after making eight birdies in an eight-bore opening round 64 at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
One shot off the pace is American Angel Yin, who recovered from a pair of bogeys in his opening four holes to post a seven-under 65 that spurred a three-eagle on the par-5 17th.
Former US Women’s Open winner Alysen Corpuz and Marina Alex are tied at 3 balls further back, while former major winners Ariya Jutanugarn, Celine Boutier and defending AIG Women’s Open champion Lydia Ko are tied at five under.
Ireland’s Leona Maguire is within striking distance after making four birdies in her first-round 3-under 69.
World No. 1 Nellie Korda endured a tougher opening round to fall just off the pace at 72. England’s Charlie Hull beat Korda to win The Annika last weekend, her seventh win of the season. , also struggled on the first day.
Hull sits on the back of two bogeys and a double bogey in his opening 73.
