Chris Eubank Jr’s long-awaited upset fight with Conor Benn is nearing completion and April is “a blockbuster arena event,” promoter Eddie Hearn says.
The bitter rivals have been locked in talks in recent weeks, but Hearn, who represents Benn, believes a deal could finally be reached in the coming days.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has reportedly been targeted as the venue, although the venue is yet to be confirmed, with April 26 being named.
“I think we either prepare this week or we don’t,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “His Excellency (Turkey Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority) has made it clear that it is a fight he wants to see and be involved in, which helps because it gives him the opportunity to sit in the middle and negotiate with both sides. with
“If I were to negotiate with Eubank, I don’t think the fight would happen, to be honest, fortunately I don’t.
“We’re getting close to the finish line. It’s not over yet, but we’re hoping for a stadium blockbuster in April.”
“If everyone was sane, I’d be 100 percent (sure the fight would happen). But this is boxing, and nobody’s sane. Watch this space.”
Eubank Jr’s October 2022 fight with Benn was canceled after his opponent tested positive for the banned drug clomiphene.
Benn’s license was revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control, but the suspensions were lifted this November after the National Anti-Doping Group said they were “not comfortable” that the 28-year-old had committed a doping offence.
Benn’s reprieve has paved the way for Eubank Jr and Benn, the sons of great British rivals Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn, to resume their own rivalry in the ring.
