Alpha Anderson Most of the disco group Chic is dead… according to one of his former bandmates.
The disco legend died earlier this week, according to the Chic founder Nile Rodgers … who shared some throwback pictures of the band with the caption “RIP Alfa Anderson. CHIC Organization”.

She adds that she is “forever loved” … and did not include a cause of death in her post.
Alfa rose to prominence as one of Chic’s lead vocalists, joining the band in 1977 when the legendary singer Luther Vandross encouraged him to audition.
She started working as a backup singer in the group … but then quickly moved to the lead singer Norma Jean Wright – one of the OG singers – decided to leave the group in 1978.
While starring with him Lucy MartinChic released hits such as “Le Freak,” “Good Times” and “My Forbidden Lover,” which Anderson played a major role in producing.
The original Chic broke up in 1983… and Anderson toured solo with Vandross, including playing the legendary Wembley Stadium during this period.
Among other celebrities he has worked with… Bryan Adams, Mick Jagger, Teddy Pendergrass, Jennifer Holliday and many other stars.
Alpha continued to record in his later years … appearing on “I’ll Be There” in 2015 after New Generation reformed Chic.

Anderson also took education seriously… becoming a high school principal in the 1990s; his former school, Brooklyn’s El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice High School, wrote a touching tribute to him.
Alpha was 78 years old.
