Caroline Dubois became the WBC featherweight champion after Katie Taylor vacated the belt.
Dubois became the interim champion with a unanimous decision victory over Maira Moneo in August and has since called for a title fight with Taylor.
But the Irish legend’s decision to vacate means Dubois inherits the belt and will make her first defense on January 11, her 24th birthday, against former Canadian world title challenger Jessica Kamara live in Sheffield. Sky Sports.
Dubois was presented with the belt by WBC president Mauricio Suleiman at the governing body’s annual convention in Hamburg on Wednesday.
“It is a great honor to become WBC world champion and WBC president Mauricio Suleiman presented me with a belt,” Dubois said.
“It’s always been my dream to become a world champion and this is just the beginning of the journey for me. I’m looking forward to defending my WBC title on January 11 in Sheffield.”
Since turning pro after competing at the Tokyo Olympics, Dubois has a 10-0 professional record with five knockout wins.
The Londoner, who is the sister of IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, has been largely untroubled in the professional ranks so far, but former world title challenger Kamara could provide one of her toughest tests yet.
Dubois’ promoter Ben Shalom said: “We would like to thank WBC President Mauricio Suleiman and the Board of Governors for Caroline’s recovery.
“The WBC featherweight title is up for grabs again, and in Caroline the WBC has a champion who can reign for many years.
“We are just beginning to see her true potential. We believe Caroline will be the future face of women’s boxing.”
The massive heavyweight rematch between Alexander Usyk and Tyson Fury will be shown live on Sky Sports Box Office on Saturday 21 December. Book now!
