Callum Simpson and Caroline Dubois will defend their titles in an exciting start to next year’s boxing schedule in Sheffield on January 11, live. Sky Sports.
Simpson will defend her British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles against Steed Woodall, while Dubois will face Jessica Kamara in a fight for the WBC interim flyweight belt.
The unbeaten Simpson will look to forge his own legacy at the Canon Medical Arena by putting his home town of Barnsley on the boxing map with a dominant display to capture the titles in August.
Simpson proved his pulling power and boxing prowess by dethroning reigning champion Zac Chelly by unanimous decision in front of a sell-out crowd at Oakwell Stadium, and now makes the first defense of his belts against Birmingham’s Woodall.
“Winning the belts at Barnsley was a dream come true,” said Simpson. “It’s a moment I will never forget. hearing the crowd roar and seeing so many familiar faces made it extra special.
“Defending my titles in Sheffield is a great opportunity to bring more people back and show them what I’m all about. Yorkshire has such a proud history of boxing. I want to do the county proud and add to that legacy.”
Woodall, 30, known as “The Stallion,” is brimming with confidence after a career-best victory over previously unbeaten Leron Richards in June.
“Callum is young and wants to impress,” said Woodall. “He’s ticked all the boxes so far, but his chin and flexibility are not checked. I expect fireworks in this fight.
“This kind of fight has been a long time coming for me. This win means everything to me and a better life for my daughter. Styles make fights and I don’t have to go looking for Calum because he will meet me in the middle.” , which is exactly the type of fight I excel at.”
Dubois is expected to test Kamara in Sheffield
Dubois will face former Canadian world title challenger Kamara in her first fight since defeating Maira Moneo to claim the WBC interim title in August.
The 23-year-old, considered by many to be the No. 1 prospect to challenge Katie Taylor’s throne in women’s boxing, is targeting an all-British unification clash with reigning WBO lightweight champion Terry Harper.
Dubois will first have to overcome former flyweight world title challenger Kamara, a highly-rated Canadian who will try to derail the young Londoner’s promising career.
“Caroline has a big future ahead of her,” said BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom. “She has her sights set on world titles and unifications, but will have to beat an experienced, world-class operator like Kamara.
“What a start to the year. Two of the country’s brightest stars once again played in Sheffield for an incredible night of boxing. Yorkshire has always been a hotbed of boxing talent.”
