For a former bodyguard Brian ThompsonThe CEO of UnitedHealthcare who was shot and killed in New York is in utter disbelief that the executive did not have security when he was killed.
Philip Kleinwhose Texas security firm Klein Investigations previously provided bodyguards to Thompson in the 2000s, tells TMZ … he’s “shocked and confused” that the high-ranking executive didn’t have “details” (at least 10 guards) with him in Manhattan location, given the maliciousness that the insurance industry often encounters.
He also says Thompson should have been wearing a vest in addition to having bodyguards by his side, but adds that he likely didn’t because of personal preference.
Philip believes that now UHC has some explanation for Thompson walking alone at the Hilton, as the late businessman should have. never out on his own. But, again, it’s his choice in the end.
He says Thompson was “a good guy who was a real shopper” when he covered for him … still not surprised the CEO might have a target on his back.
As Klein says … the insurance business is known to generate a lot of hostility, noting that Thompson’s death should be a “lesson” to other major corporations; their CEOs and leaders should be protected.
As TMZ previously reported, Thompson was fatal shot Wednesday morning outside the Hilton Hotel in New York, police described it as a “premeditated, premeditated attack” … as the killer was seen hiding at the scene minutes before Thompson arrived.
While the identity of the shooter has yet to be released, NYPD have released images of the suspect’s face … hoping for clues to help in their citywide search for the killer.
