American Airlines passengers had a rough flight Thursday … when a bird flew into a jet engine turbine and crash-landed, and it was all caught on video.
Here’s the deal… Flight 1722 took off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Thursday when a bird flew almost immediately upside down into a turbine, causing a small fireball to appear on the side of the plane.
Check out the video … the bird swoops toward the plane and hits the engine, making a tremendous thumping noise and what appears to be engine stress as the plane tilts slightly to the side.
There was no landing on the Hudson River here, though… Flight 1722 made an emergency landing at New York’s other major airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, which was a long way from North Carolina’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said the impact rendered the right engine useless… luckily, the secondary engine kicked in.
American Airlines released a statement about the incident … saying there were no injuries and thanking the crew for their professionalism during the difficult flight.
