Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be announced as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, according to multiple reports.
Johnson was one of at least 17 candidates for the role and will lead a Bears team that finished last in the NFC North this season despite winning four of their first six games.
Chicago (5-12) lost 10 straight after its promising start, including a 23-20 loss at Detroit on Thanksgiving, which led to the firing of coach Matt Eberfluss on Nov. 29 and the replacement of Thomas Brown as interim coach for the rest of the season.
Johnson spent three seasons as Detroit’s offensive coordinator under Dan Campbell and helped develop Jared Goff into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, with the 38-year-old widely considered the top head coaching candidate on the market.
