Keely Hodgkinson won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024 award as runner-up Luke Littler received the Young SPOTY award.
Hodgkinson completed his rise to athletics superstardom by winning 800m gold for Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Littler, who started at the World Darts Championship last year aged 16, won the final at Alexandra Palace but his success had an incredible impact on the sport’s popularity.
Joe Root, who became England’s all-time leading run-scorer in October, finished third.Sarah Storey, Alex Yee and Jude Bellingham were the finalists in the public vote.
Hodgkinson burst onto the world stage at the age of 19, winning a silver medal in the 800m at the Tokyo Olympics.
Few outside British athletics had heard of him at the time, but those who did knew he was destined for stardom.
He won two World Championship silver medals before finally making it to the golden evening in Paris in early August.
Hodgkinson’s success makes it an unprecedented four years in a row that a woman has won the award, following Mary Earps in 2023, Beth Mead in 2022 and Emma Radukanu in 2021.
Littler has had a sensational year in 2024, collecting 10 titles, including his first ranking Masters of Darts Grand Slam, only previously completed by Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright.
Littler’s meteoric rise saw him become the face of the sport, with the likes of David Beckham sending him messages of success as he made his way from world youth champion to the center of the professional game.
