Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid won their sixth consecutive men’s wheelchair doubles title at the Australian Open.
The British pair have now won 17 of the last 20 Grand Slam titles in the format and 22 together, while they also won a maiden Paralympic gold together last summer.
They won the final in Melbourne in straight sets, beating Daniel Kawerzaski of Spain and Stephane Houdet of France 6-2 6-4.
“I think the key is to never rest where we are and never be satisfied with our level, our performance and always looking to improve,” Reid said.
“No matter what title we’ve won or what number it is, we always go back and review it and see where we can improve and get better.”
Hewett will look to make it a double on Saturday when he takes on arch-rival Tokito Oda in the singles final.
Lapthorne wins eighth consecutive quadruple doubles title in Melbourne
Andy Lapthorne won his eighth Australian Open doubles title with Sam Schroeder of the Netherlands with a 6-1 6-4 victory over top seeds Niels Vink and Guy Sasson.
Lapthorne is a huge West Ham fan and has been encouraged by the club’s support and hopes to be home in time to see them take on Aston Villa live on Sunday. Sky Sports.
“I think my flight is at 23:00 tomorrow, if I’m not late, then I’ll get in the car straight away and go to Villa Park,” he said.
“If not, hopefully I’ll have the week off and maybe go to the training ground and show off the trophy, meet some of the guys. I had a couple of messages from Vladimir Kufal last night which was really nice.
“He just WhatsApped me saying he was looking, good luck etc. They were amazing to me.
“A couple of the guys in the media team have messaged me saying good luck and they’re watching. It’s just great to have the support of the fans and the people at the club. It keeps me going.”
Britain’s 15-year-old Hannah Klugman missed out on the girls’ doubles title, but lost to American twins Annika and Christina Penickova 6-4 6-2 in the final alongside Australia’s Emerson Jones.
