Tim Matheson says he’s lucky he’s never done much cocaine … saying he’s gambled a lot, but he worries too much about how the white stuff will affect his work to get addicted.
The “Animal House” star chatted Page six of his new memoir, Damn Glad to Meet You — a reference to a line his character says to prospective pledges in the iconic college fraternity film — he explains that because he was a working actor, he was afraid of going overboard. : in coke.
Basically, Matheson says he wasn’t a star and was living paycheck to paycheck … and he was well aware that he could lose his income if he didn’t continue to perform well.
That said, Tim says he doesn’t completely avoid the stuff…but he doesn’t use it as much as some of his contemporaries who were taller.
One of those modern… John Belushi – who died of a cocaine and heroin overdose in 1982 aged just 33.
Matheson says part of the problem is that everyone in his generation said cocaine wasn’t that bad for you…obviously, it wasn’t.
TM has had quite a career since Animal House… appearing on The West Wing, Hart of Dixie, Fletch, Batman: The Animated Series, Black Sheep, In the movies “Van. Wilder” and “Virgin River”.
Drug addiction likely would have limited his career credits…and, while Matheson thanked his lucky stars, he never fell for it.
