Alabama A&M football quarterback Madrick Burnett Jr. he died aged 20 after suffering a severe head injury during a match last month.
He died at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday at UAB Hospital, according to local officials.
Burnett Jr. was involved in a concussion during A&M’s game on Oct. 26, a day before his birthday.He was treated in the ICU … and suffered some bleeding and swelling, according to his sister.
“He had to have a drainage tube to relieve the pressure and after 2 days of severe pressure we had to opt for craniotomy as a last resort to try and save his life,” said Dominis James.

Alabama A&M posted — and later retracted – A statement on Burnett Jr.’s death Wednesday morning said he was informed of the tragic news the night before by an “immediate” family member.
Burnett Jr., a California native, had played in seven games this season before the tragic incident.
