Writing about the environment can be frustrating and repetitive, and I’m glad I was able to take a break this year to focus on biomedicine and health stories. But I’ve still been on the lookout for progress, or the lack of it, and I can safely say that it’s still frustrating and repetitive. It’s been another terrible year for the planet.

The litany of misfortunes is well known: record temperatures, extreme weather, constant collapse…
