Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said Sunday that Egypt has proposed a two-day temporary ceasefire in Gaza that would include the release of four Israeli hostages in exchange for “some” Palestinian prisoners.
El-Sisi’s announcement came at a joint press conference in Cairo with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Qatari, American and Israeli officials are meeting Sunday in Doha, Qatar, to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza and restart talks for a hostage deal.
Israeli forces have been in contact with Hamas representatives since he was killed, Qatari authorities said Yahya Sinwar — the political leader of Hamas in Gaza and one of the main architects of Israel’s October 7, 2023 surprise attack — on October 17. It was unclear whether Hamas officials participated in Sunday’s talks.
