A ship commonly used to ship nuclear waste around the world is testing a new aluminum sail that could dramatically reduce ocean liners’ fuel consumption and climate impact.

Pacific Grebe is spending three weeks in October traveling the UK coast, testing the FastRig, a 20m sail designed to help propel large ships across the high seas.

The blade-like retractable sail weighs about 35 tons and can be extended…
