Harvey Weinstein’s medical problems are getting worse as he has now been diagnosed with leukemia, TMZ has confirmed.
The disgraced Hollywood movie producer has chronic myeloid leukemia, a type of cancer that starts in the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow, according to the American Cancer Society.
Weinstein’s representative, Judah Engelmeierand his lawyer Arthur Aidaladeclined to comment on the new diagnosis, but they issued a joint statement… “Craig Rothfeld, Mr. Weinstein’s health care representative in New York State, expresses deep concern about the speculation surrounding Mr. Weinstein’s health.”
They went on to say… “It is both worrying and unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become the subject of public debate and speculation. Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will not comment further.”
NBC first reported the news, adding that Weinstein was undergoing treatment at Rikers Island. Weinstein is being held in a New York prison complex awaiting a retrial in his sexual assault case.
As we reported, Weinstein had the Manhattan case overturned in an appeals court after he was convicted in 2020 of raping an aspiring actress and sexually assaulting a production assistant. The judge sentenced him to 23 years in prison.
But Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg decided to retry the two accusers’ case and even announced a new indictment in September, accusing Weinstein of a third sexual assault on a woman in a lower Manhattan hotel.
Furthermore, Weinstein was convicted in 2022 of raping a woman in a Beverly Hills hotel and sentenced to 16 years in a California prison. He also faced multiple civil lawsuits alleging rape and sexual assault.
In addition to his legal troubles, Weinstein has had to deal with a number of health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid in his heart and lungs.
In September, he was rushed to hospital for major heart surgery after he experienced chest pains in prison. During another hospital visit, he contracted COVID-19 and developed pneumonia again, requiring further medical attention.
Now Weinstein has leukemia. Harvey just can’t seem to catch a break.
