“These pens suck”
While there is no shortage of it Mickey Mantle autographs market, there is a truly unique item on the auction block Lelands … 14″ x 20″ cardboard signed 99 times by the MLB legend, which includes a special message about the junk writing instrument he used for his John Hancox.
#7, one of the greatest baseball players to ever step on the diamond, signed his famous Mickey Mantle autograph decades ago for a friend who ran a statue company.
Mantle, using a black felt-tipped marker, signed his name 46 times on the cardboard… before being heard (we know, a foul sport).
“THESE PENS BITE” … the arrow wrote with an arrow pointing to his previous signature;
Then, seemingly not missing a beat, Mickey went on to sign his name 53 more times … for a total of 99 times.
FYI, Mantle was known as a perfectionist who had impeccable handwriting. Just look at the photo … beautiful penmanship.
The special item is now available for bidding on the auction block… but it won’t come cheap. Even though the starting point was $10k, the product will eventually sell for exponentially more.
In fact, the cardboard has already been offered 37 times, and the price is already $70,000.
Mantle, a 20-time All-Star and three-time AL MVP who won seven World Series, died in 1995 at age 63. Mickey signed a group, especially later in life … but good luck finding a better one. story than behind these autographs.
