A team that helps lay the foundations for the future Donald Trump the administration said its computer systems had been breached, and flagged it the second known case that the people who support the former president have been the target of a cyber attack.
The America First Policy Institute discovered the breach last week. He would not say which materials were at risk.
“As the leading policy group in the America First movement, it’s no surprise that hostile foreign actors are trying to infiltrate our IT,” Marc Lotter, the organization’s chief communications officer, said in a statement. “The threat actor’s tactics, techniques, and procedures are similar to state-sponsored activities we’ve seen, and it allows us to quickly remediate and respond.”
AFPI is one of the groups created after Trump left office to help lay the foundations for the next Republican administration. He has published policy guides and written executive orders and bills to be implemented if Trump wins.
It is led by Brooke Rollins, who previously ran Trump’s Domestic Policy Council and is expected to be a contender for the top job if Trump wins again.
The team also includes Linda McMahon, who ran Trump’s Small Business Administration and now heads Trump’s transition team.
The reported breach comes after authorities said Iranian hackers had accessed the email accounts of some of Trump’s campaign and supporters and stolen some of the material. Three Iranian operatives have been accused of cyberattacks.
The FBI declined to comment on the latest breach reported Saturday.
