Stephen Yager leads the PGA Tour’s Black Desert Championship by one shot after his back nine consecutive chip birdies saw the German card eight to the second round.

Jaeger’s 63 was highlighted by birdies on the 15th and 16th, which came on a five-birdie run over his final seven holes in Utah.

The 35-year-old finished Friday at 14 under, a stroke behind Canada’s Adam Swenson, who shot 11-under 60 on the first day, and Ben Coles of the United States.

A number of players have yet to complete their second round due to poor light on a day when Matt McCarthy is playing his second PGA Tour event this summer after three wins on the Korn Ferry Tour after 12 through 15 holes.

Jaeger got off to a fast start with three birdies in a row and four in his first five holes, only to then three-putt from 10 feet on the seventh for his only blemish of the day.

He rallied, however, diving in for birdie from 30 feet on the 12th and holing another shot at the 14th to make his side-by-side chip entries before the next two holes.

Yeager, who secured his first PGA Tour title in March when he held off world No. 1 Scotty Scheffler to win the Texas Junior Houston Open, finished his round with a birdie on the fifth-par 18th, two shots from 50 feet.

Then he said: “The two chip inserts on the back made this round kind of cool, so pleased.
