A police officer was seriously injured after a suspect opened fire on officers inside the home, authorities said.
Officers were called to a home in the Renaissance Park neighborhood of Raleigh, North Carolina, just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Raleigh Police Deputy Chief of Operations Rico Boyce said.
Once on the scene, someone inside the home fired at responding officers, who returned fire before striking and killing the suspect, police said.
An officer was shot in the exchange and taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, Boyce said.
The incident was contained to the home, and the emergency alert sent to those in the area has since been lifted, Deputy Chief Boyce continued.
“Chief Patterson informed me of the shooting of a police officer in Raleigh tonight. The officer is now being treated at the hospital. Anna and I are praying for a full recovery,” North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said on social media.
Police did not release further details about the motivation behind the shooting or the identities of those involved.
The investigation is currently underway.
