UFC 311: Makhachev sets new record and retains lightweight belt for fourth consecutive time | WWE News

Islam Makhachev set a new record and successfully retained his lightweight title at UFC 311 by submitting Renato Moicano in one round on Saturday in California.

Makhachov took four minutes and five seconds to pick up his 15th straight victory and has now defended the belt four times in a row, the first in UFC history.

Makhachev was gracious in victory, reiterating his desire to fight anyone the UFC designated.

“For me (it is not important),” Makhachev said. “(Who) can make 155 (pounds), just get in the cage with me.”

Moikano was a last-minute replacement for top contender Arman Tsarukyan, who pulled out of the bout on Friday due to “significant back pain” related to his injury.

The 35-year-old Brazilian has won nine of his last 10 fights but was unable to match Makhachev, who trapped him in a brabo choke, forcing him to tap out almost immediately.

“It wasn’t a day’s notice,” Moicano said after the fight. “It was a lifetime’s notice. I spent my whole life for this moment and hit the first round.”

Makhachev improved his overall record to 27 wins and just one loss.
