TikTok is toast in the US…at least for now.
The social media giant, best known for its users sharing real-life videos, went dark for 170 million Americans late Saturday night.

As this was going down, the China-based company released two announcements, the first of which informed everyone that it would be shutting down on Sunday, but was followed shortly by a second announcement saying that the US law banning TikTok had unfortunately gone into effect. :

The company added that it feels lucky for the President Donald Trump has indicated that he will work with TikTok to restore the service once he takes office.
On Saturday, Trump called the “Meet The Press” host Kristen Welkertelling him he would likely give TikTok a 90-day grace period as he assesses the situation after his inauguration on Monday.

Furthermore, the TikTok app was removed from major app stores such as Apple and Google just before the federal law was enforced on Saturday.

The law prohibits app stores from offering TikTok and requires the platform’s owner, ByteDance, to sell it or watch it get banned.ByteDance has apparently chosen the latter option.
As you know… For years, Congress has warned of the pitfalls of TikTok, calling it a national security threat because of its ties to China, which could potentially access the personal data of American users.
