Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart has revealed that Philip Clement will remain as the club’s manager despite growing pressure from supporters.

Former Manchester United boss Stewart, who took over at Ibrox less than a month ago, admits it would have been an “easy decision” to sack the Belgian manager following the disappointment of the fans. However, he insists that “at Old Trafford “time spent proves that constant change of leaders is not effective.

Stewart warned that results must improve with no “cast iron guarantees” offered to Clement, whose side have won just three away games this season and are 15 points behind Celtic at the weekend. He also dismissed suggestions that the 50-year-old the lack of finances is behind the decision to keep a specialist at the helm.

On Monday, an outside-backed “root and branch review of the entire football department” will begin, lasting between six and 12 weeks, as he aims to address issues that have plagued the club on and off the pitch in recent seasons.

He also revealed that the club will look to add “one or two” players in the January transfer window with a centre-back a priority they have been pursuing since December.
