Deontay Wilder: Former heavyweight champion poised to confirm return to ring soon | Boxing News

Deontay Wilder is set to confirm his return to the ring.

The former WBC heavyweight champion has not fought since a loss to Zhilei Zhang last June.

But Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel confirmed the 39-year-old could announce his next fight in the coming weeks.

Wilder teased his comeback in November, posting a message on Instagram that “the best is yet to come” along with a video montage of members of the media calling for his departure.

The “Bronze Bomber” had a long reign as the WBC champion before losing his title in 2020 in a dramatic rematch loss to Tyson Fury.

The big-hitting American lost his trilogy fight with Fury before bouncing back with a first-round knockout of Robert Helenius.

A loss to Joseph Parker in 2023, along with a loss to Zhang, led to questions about Wilder’s future.

But Wilder is now set to restart his career in a division dominated by Oleksandr Usyk after a rematch win over Tyson Fury last month.

Usyk, who holds the WBC, WBA and WBO belts, has suggested he could return to the cruiserweight division, where he was the undisputed champion, while Britain’s Daniel Dubois is the IBF champion after a knockout victory over Anthony Joshua last year.
