For hungry insects, walking through a tomato stalk can be like navigating a minefield in search of a green meal.

Jared Popowski At the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands he was trying to measure the mechanical properties of tomato plants in the laboratory Then a small hair on one of the stems began to pour liquid, and it happened so quickly that his camera barely caught it. He accidentally set a plant on fire pest protection mechanisms.
