Tottenham have taken up the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract to keep him at the club for another 12 months until June 2026.
The South Korean striker and club captain was out of contract in June, meaning Spurs were in danger of losing him on a free transfer after a decade-long revolution following his signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.
Barcelona were one of a number of clubs linked with a move for him this summer, but the 32-year-old will now stay at Tottenham for at least another year.
Son has long been the best Asian player in Premier League history and is the third-highest goalscorer among players still active in the competition, behind only Jamie Vardy and Mo Salah.
He has hit double figures in the top flight in each of the last eight seasons and shares the Golden Boot with Salah in 2022, but form has been harder to come by this campaign; has scored only 5 goals so far and two goals in the last 11 Premier League matches.
Son scored 169 goals in 431 games for Spurs in all competitions.
“We are pleased to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026,” said a statement on Tottenham’s website.
