Biden to visit New Orleans, attend prayer service after deadly New Year’s attack

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are scheduled to travel on Monday New Orleanswhere they will attend a prayer service for the victims’ families and affected community members New Year’s Day Attack in the city

Biden is expected to arrive in New Orleans in the evening, touching down hours before a prayer service to be hosted by the Archdiocese of New Orleans, according to the White House.

It happens after a suspicious visit, Shamsud-Din Jabbar42, no the army veteran and Houston realtor, allegedly drove a rented truck onto Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day. Jabbar, a Texas resident who FBI officials said professed support for the terrorist group ISIS in social media posts before the attack, was killed in a shootout with police in New Orleans.

The 14 victims a young mother who was teaching her son to read, an “on top of the world” former college football player living in New York and an 18-year-old aspiring nurse, died.

The prayer service the Bidens will attend on Monday will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, the White House and the Archdiocese announced.

“Archbishop (Gregory Michael) Aymond continues to offer his prayers and condolences to those affected by this tragedy,” the archdiocese said in its announcement. “It calls for all of us to join in prayer for our community today and every day as we work to build a culture that respects the life and dignity of all people.”
