Big day for Eric and Lyle Menendez…relatives set to meet Los Angeles’ newly elected D.C. with Nathan Hochman to discuss the siblings’ anger at the infamous murders of their parents decades ago.
Twenty members of the family of Jose and Kitty Menendez, who were shot to death by their own children in 1989, will sit down with Hochman today to ask the DA to reduce the sentences for Eric and Lyle.
As you know, the brothers were convicted of the murders and sentenced to life without parole in their second trial in 1996. Their first trial ended in a mistrial.
At today’s meeting, family members will speak in support of the “grieving process that reflects Eric and Lyle’s abuse, trauma and demonstrated recovery over the past 35 years.”
The family also notes that Lyle and Eric have spent decades behind bars, “taking responsibility for their actions and contributing positively to their community through tremendous personal growth.”
Back in October, then-LA DA George Gascon held a press conference to announce that he would ask a judge to issue a writ of habeas corpus to the brothers.
But Gascon lost his bid for re-election to Hochman, who has yet to say what stance he will take on the appeal.
The family’s attorneys accused Hochman late last year of … meeting with a lawyer for a family member who opposes the brothers’ release.
With a hearing set for later this month, Eric and Lyle’s attorney, Mark Geragos, will be asking not only for his clients to go to trial…he’ll be asking the judge to change the verdict from manslaughter to manslaughter, which would immediately acquit Eric and Lyle.
