The younger brother of New Orleans terrorist Shamsood-Deen Jabbar is reportedly blaming “radicalization” for his relatives’ rampage that left 15 dead and many more injured.
Abdur Jabber told the New York Times that Shamsud-Din was a practicing Christian in his early years in Beaumont, Texas, but later converted to the Muslim faith, spending much of his life studying Islam.
However, Abdur noted. “What he did does not represent Islam. It is a form of radicalization, not a religion.”
Abdour said he had his last conversation with Shamsud-Deen two weeks ago, who never said anything about the plot to attack Louisiana’s famous French Quarter.
He went on to say that Shamsud-Din joined the army because he didn’t know what to do with his life and needed discipline.Shamsud-Din was reportedly deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan at the height of those wars.
As we reported … Shamsud-Deen rented a pickup truck and drove through a large group of New Orleans revelers along Bourbon Street Wednesday night, then died in a shootout with police.
Police say 15 people have been killed and at least 30 others injured in what officials are calling a terrorist attack.
The FBI and local authorities found an Islamic State flag attached to a pickup truck and a possible explosive device inside the vehicle. The Islamic State, better known as ISIS, is a violent terrorist group operating out of the Middle East.
