A charter plane carrying the Gonzaga men’s basketball team was just feet away from being wiped out by an outbound plane over the weekend … and the near-miss was caught on video.
Check out the footage from LAX around 4:30pm Friday night … you can see the Bulldogs’ Embraer E135 jet heading to its gate after landing in Los Angeles, a Delta jet taking off on a nearby runway, and two planes got so close to each other that the air traffic controller had to tell the Zags pilot to stop.
Fortunately, the two avoided each other … but the FAA still says in a statement TMZ Sports is investigating the situation on Monday.
As for Gonzaga, which ultimately advanced safely to Saturday night’s game against UCLA in Los Angeles, school officials told us Monday that they, too, are reviewing the matter.
“Members of our team on board the aircraft were unaware of the situation as it occurred and we are grateful that the incident ended safely for everyone.”
The Zags lost to the Bruins, 65-62 … but, perhaps luckily for them, they won’t have to board a slightly different plane as they have to play in Malibu against Pepperdine on Monday night.
