Luke Humphries hits back at Peter Wright: I’m one world title away from matching everything he has achieved | Darts News

Luke Humphries has hit back at Peter Wright ahead of their World Darts Championship clash on Sunday.

Humphreys is looking to defend his title in 2024 after defeating Luke Littler in a thrilling final.

He advanced to the fourth round of the tournament with a straight-sets victory over Nick Kenny on Friday.

It sets up a last-16 clash between the reigning champion and two-time winner Peter Wright, who, despite clearly battling illness, produced his best performance of the tough 2024 as he beat Jermaine Watimena 4-2.

Humphreys says he will not relinquish his world title without a fight after he edged past Nick Kenny in the World Darts Championship.

Wright’s pregame “mind games” prompted Humphreys to respond.

“He’s had a lot to say in the last few weeks where he says he’s not afraid of me and Luke Littler. He says he’s going to smash us. Now the pressure is on him because if he doesn’t use the egg then it’s going to show up. His face isn’t mine,” Humphreys said of his next opponent.

“How many times have people said this is going to happen and this is going to happen and it never happens?

“I think Peter likes to play mind games, but it doesn’t work with me. I’m one world title away from matching his career, and I’m about 25 years younger. So I think one (more) world.” the title will be in line with what he has achieved in the game.”

He also believes that Littler, 17, won’t be shaken either. that’s not afraid of us. But if I’m not afraid of someone I don’t mention all the time,” Humphreys said.

But he discounted the attitude he also has toward Wright. “He’s a dangerous player,” Humphreys said.

“I’m really looking forward to playing him. He’s a top guy, he’s a two-time world champion. He’s got a lot of experience and I respect him a lot.”
