Tottenham’s injury crisis has deepened after Ben Davies failed in training, potentially leaving Ange Postecoglou without a fit centre-back for Sunday’s visit of Wolves.
Spurs were already without Christian Romero, Mickey van de Ven and Davies on Thursday 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forestbut matters were then complicated when Radu Dragusin limped off with an ankle problem.
Speaking about the need to enter the January transfer market to alleviate some of the team’s lingering problems, with up to nine players injured and Jed Spence currently suspended after being sent off against Forest, Postecoglou said: .
“There have always been problems, but not to this extent. I think we’ve had about 10 first-team players not available for a significant number of games. We’re in a tough spot, too we have been for a while.
“We’ve been through it for quite some time and fingers crossed we don’t have any more problems.
“(Transfer policy) can be disciplined, but we need a clear idea of where we are. There is a need to strengthen if possible, it is not an easy time to do that in this window.
“The club is working hard behind the scenes to help the players we have who give their all every game to try and get us through.
“We have to help a few of these guys because there are at least two or three who are out there with long-term injuries. The others are coming back and needing time to get up to speed to get reinforcements.”
Asked if Yves Bissuma – who finished Forest’s game at center back. “He can act as an emergency defender in the game against the Wolves,” he added. “Yves has never played there so I’m not sure why I’d put him there. We’ll see.”
Guglielmo Vicario, Van de Ven, Romero, Davies, Spence, Mikey Moore, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison are confirmed absent for Sunday’s Premier League clash.
