AUGUSTA, Ga. — A National Guard soldier appeared in federal court Monday charged with manslaughter in a weekend shooting that left one man dead and a Georgia military base on lockdown.

Natravien Landry, 25, made his initial court appearance before a federal magistrate in Augusta, according to U.S. District Court records. He has been charged with murder Saturday morning at a home in Fort Eisenhower, where Landry served in a transportation unit with the Georgia National Guard.

Commanders at Fort Eisenhower, home of the U.S. Army Cyber Command, ordered a two-hour lockdown because of the shooting. They later released few details, saying one person had been arrested in an “isolated” fatal shooting at an Army post near Augusta.

An affidavit from an Army investigator filed in court provided more details.

Landry was at work Saturday and was taking a break when he went to the residence of an ex-girlfriend, where he confronted and shot another man with whom he had spent the night, according to the affidavit.

Fort Eisenhower officials have not released the victim’s name. He was identified only by the initials on the investigator’s affidavit.

David Stewart, listed in court records as Landry’s attorney, did not immediately return phone and email messages Monday.

Landry fled in a car and was arrested Saturday by sheriff’s deputies in Meriwether County, about 180 miles from the base. The affidavit said Landry threw a 9mm handgun out the car window, and admitted to the shooting when questioned by an Army investigator.
