Harvey Weinstein has been taken to New York’s Bellevue Hospital “due to a disturbing blood test result that requires immediate medical attention for emergency treatment,” his lawyer, Imran Ansari, said in a statement.
“It is expected that he will remain there until his condition stabilizes,” Ansari said.
The ailing film producer is being held at Rikers Island while awaiting a new trial on sexual assault charges.
Weinstein has been diagnosed with illnesses including leukemia, according to his associates.
Weinstein is suing New York City and its Department of Corrections, alleging negligence and inadequate care.
According to Ansari, Weinstein “has been subjected to a lack of adequate medical care and deplorable and inhumane conditions at Rikers Island.”
According to Weinstein’s spokesperson Juda Engelmayer, “abuse is cruel and unusual punishment.”
Weinstein he underwent emergency heart surgery in September at Bellevue Hospital. In July, he was later transferred to Bellevue Testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia.
