On Sunday, two more Democrats announced their intention to run for chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Ben Wikler, chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin since 2019, said the video announcing his candidacy, “Today, the country we love must have a stronger Democratic Party. to meet to fight And to win.”

And in a letter to DNC members, Robert Houghton, a former candidate for the US Senate from Maryland, laid out his bid to “lead and grow our Democratic Party in support of victorious and transformative elections in 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, and beyond.” .

They enter a growing field with the New York state senator. James Skoufiswho announced his candidacy on Saturday, Martin O’Malley, the former governor of Maryland who has served as commissioner of the Social Security Administration since December 2023, and Ken Martin, the DNC vice chairman who leads the Minnesota Democratic Farmers. Jaime Harrison, the current president, is not seeking a second term.

In an interview with CNN after announcing his candidacy, Wikler said Republicans “don’t rip this country off and rip off the workers.”

Asked by CNN what he thinks is the biggest problem facing Democrats today, Wikler suggested that voters don’t think Democrats have their backs.

“The main problem is that the voters, many voters, have internalized this idea that the Democrats are not on their side,” he said. “They’re not fighting for working families every day. They have other agendas. That’s the Republican line. Attack.”

Wikler and Martin are the precedents. The elections are on February 1 at the party’s annual winter meeting in National Harbor, Maryland.
