A 28-year-old prison inmate has been killed in his cell by another inmate who was being punished in the same facility, the police reported.
The inmate, identified as Robert Warren — a state prison inmate at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland, was pronounced dead in his cell Monday by emergency personnel, according to a statement from the State of Maryland. The police were released on Wednesday.
A suspect, also a prisoner, has been identified but the police have not revealed his identity, as he has not yet filed a complaint. More information is expected to be released after authorities report the suspect, police said.
Maryland authorities did not say how the man died or how long they suspect he had been dead when his body was found in his cell, but confirmed that Maryland State Police investigators are “continuing to investigate the death of a state prison inmate.” in Allegany County”.
“The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted by investigators from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigation Unit (DPSCS IID) regarding the inmate death,” according to Maryland State Police. “Coroner’s Office autopsy results ruled Warren’s death a homicide.”
State Police Homicide Unit investigators are continuing the investigation and are being assisted by State Police crime scene technicians and investigators with the DPSCS Internal Investigation Unit.
