LONDON and BELGRADE — A DHL cargo plane crashed near the Lithuanian capital early Monday, killing one of the four people on board, local officials said.
The plane from Leipzig, Germany crashed in Liepkalnis, outside the capital Vilnius, the Lithuanian airport authority said. a statement published on social networks. The flight was expected to land at Vilnius airport, officials said.

“City services are currently on the scene, along with a fire truck and a commando team from Vilnius Airport,” the brief statement said. “Airport operations are not being interrupted at this time.”
Emergency officials were notified at 5:28 a.m. that the plane had crashed into a building, the Vilnius Fire and Rescue Department reported.

As emergency crews were working in the area around Žirnių Street, which the airport had identified as the site of the crash, departures were delayed at Vilnius Airport, according to a statement. An inbound flight to Riga, Latvia, was diverted, authorities said. Air traffic resumed around 7:20 a.m., the statement said.
