Nick Kyrgios has confirmed his return to competitive tennis as he headlines the Brisbane International in December in preparation for the 2025 Australian Open.
After his performance at the Brisbane International, Kyrgios said he would also play at the World Tennis League exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
In an interview with the Australian TV channel 9NewsKyrgios said. “Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years.
“I played that amazing year in 2022. Then in the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open, I started having some problems with my wrist. I got my wrist back and now I feel great.
“It was a miraculous 15 per cent chance that I would get back to playing at this level and here we are.
“It’s going to be sick to go back there in front of the home fans.”
Kyrgios’ last Grand Slam appearance was at the 2022 US Open, where he reached the quarterfinals two months after losing to Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.
The 29-year-old was due to compete at the Australian Open in early 2023, but a knee injury forced him to withdraw and he subsequently underwent arthroscopic surgery.
Kyrgios, winner of seven ATP Tour titles, later tore a ligament in his wrist, which also required surgery, in his final tour match, with a brief return to grass in Stuttgart in June 2023.
