Kamala Harris officially concedes to Donald Trump: ‘Please know it’s going to be OK’

Vice President Kamala Harris has officially been awarded the 2024 presidential nomination by Republican President Donald Trump.

The Democratic nominee addressed supporters at Howard University in Washington DC on Wednesday, where his team hoped to celebrate the victory before the race was finally called for Trump. Trump’s campaign tore down the so-called “blue wall” as Harris sought the presidency, winning in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

In his concession speech, Harris maintained a positive view of America’s future and said he supported the election but would not “endorse the fight that fueled this campaign.”

“My heart is full today. Thank you very much for the trust you have placed in me. Full of love for our country. And full of determination,” he told supporters Wednesday. “The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for. But hear me when I say that the light of America’s promise will always shine bright as long as we never give up and keep fighting. “.

At the heart of Harris’s speech was a promise of no transfer of power. The Biden administration promised to “participate in a peaceful transfer of power,” to cheers from the audience. Harris said he called Trump on Wednesday and congratulated him on his victory.

“A fundamental tenet of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results,” Harris said. “This principle, as much as any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny. And whoever seeks public trust must honor it.”

Harris thanked her husband Doug Emhoff, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, President Biden and those who supported her campaign. But he also called it time to “mobilize and be committed” “for the sake of justice”. He added that the supporters should not be disappointed with the results of the elections.

“Please know, it’s going to be okay,” she said.
