Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have tied in the Dixville Notch midnight vote, kicking off the official start of 2024. The elections the day
Following national trends, indicating a very close race, Harris and Trump each got three votes out of six registered voters in Dixville Notch, a small town in northern New Hampshire.
The group — made up of four registered Republicans and two unregistered voters — was split on the president.
With more reporters than voters at Balsam Resort, the entire process took almost 10 minutes from start to finish. After the playing of the national anthem, the six voters entered the voting booth one by one before the votes were counted by hand and read aloud while the results were written on a white board.

In the New Hampshire gubernatorial race, Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Ayotte received five votes in Dixville Notch indicating that she chose to split the election compared to the presidential race.
In the last two presidential elections, Dixville Notch voters have tilted toward Democrats, giving five of their 2020 votes to President Joe Biden and four of their seven 2016 votes to Hillary Clinton.
The tradition goes back nearly 60 years, but this year, Dixville Notch is the only town in New Hampshire to vote at midnight. Officials in two other towns that traditionally join midnight voting – Millsfield and Hart’s Location – have decided to hold a more traditional daytime voting time.
