The military said a full investigation is underway.
It has been the US Army patrolling the region for more than a year Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen after the start of the Israel-Hamas war to counter the ongoing attacks.
Hours earlier, the military said US forces carried out precision airstrikes on a missile storage facility and a command and control facility used by the Houthis and shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle and anti-ship cruise missile.
The operation involved the US Air Force and the US Army and included F/A-18 aircraft.
