One person was killed and several others, including students, were injured in a shooting early Sunday at a homecoming event at Alabama’s Tuskegee University, the institution said.
The shooting happened on campus and resulted in “the death of a non-student,” the university said in a statement released earlier Sunday.
“The parents of this individual have been notified,” the statement said. “Several other Tuskegee University students were injured and are being treated at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.”
“Emergency responders, along with campus and local law enforcement, secured the scene,” the university added. “The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is conducting an active investigation.”
“The university is in the process of fulfilling student responsibility and notifying parents. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
